2009 John J. Kelly Scholarship Awarded

The 2009 CONN-NAHRO John J. Kelly Golf Classic were awarded at the 11th Annual Convention and Exhibition. Three annual $3,500.00 scholarships were given to:

Samantha Davis of Hartford is a student at Saint Joseph’s College. She has received an Associates Degree in Social Service from the Capitol Community College and is pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Social Work.   She is a participant in the DSS J. D’Amelia & Associates Section 8 program, the mother of a four-year-old, a full time student and a full time employee!

Christopher Sanchez dreams of giving back to his community, Stratford, after graduating from the University of Connecticut, Stamford Campus. He would like to open a center where teens can get individual help face-to-face for academic or home related issues. He lives in Section 8 housing in Stratford and is an intern at Youthspeak in Bridgeport.

The third recipient is Tabitha Serrano a graduate of Middletown High School. Ms Serrano plans to attend Post University in Waterbury, CT. She plans to major in peace and conflict studies which focus on conflict resolution, nonviolent philosophies and strategies and world government.  She lives in Middletown and has been active in extracurricular activities and works part time.
